Quality Improvement Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementation and evaluation of goal-oriented healthcare quality improvement projects
  • Recruits healthcare providers to participate in quality improvement projects
  • Provides virtual and on-site technical assistance to providers participating in quality improvement projects including, but not limited to:
    • Guidance in development of quality improvement plans
    • Best practice information/change packages
    • Education on the use of data to facilitate quality improvement
    • Facilitation of communication/collaboration across providers
    • Using data to facilitate change (how to collect, track and analyze data; use of trend and outcome reports)
    • Advises management on areas to improve upon.
  • Interacts with healthcare providers and stakeholders to share actionable information regarding respective quality improvement initiatives
  • Help healthcare providers such as front-line staff, management and/or executive teams develop and implement activities to improve overall quality of organization
  • Work as part of a highly collaborative team to develop educational/informational programs and materials designed to educate providers and stakeholders about HQSI’s quality imporvement projects
  • Participates in and serve as a resource to quality improvement committees
  • Represents company at external meetings/events/trade shows


Knowledge, Experience, Skills

Knowledge:

  • Cross-setting experience in hospital, nursing home, home health agency, physician office, community health center operations, including standard work processes, policies, and procedures and applicable institute or government regulations
  • Quality improvement tools and techniques; familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures, including but not limited to PDSA, root cause analysis, logic models
  • Expected to have or develop collaborative working relationships with professionals across healthcare/community-based settings or counterparts in related organizations
  • CMS quality measures and Quality Reporting Programs a plus  
  • Principles of adult education and facilitation
  • Patient and family engagement


Experience:

  • Developing/improving hospital, nursing home/home health agency, physician office, community health center work processes and procedures
  • Design, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare quality improvement projects
  • Demonstrated experience providing one-on-one or group support/education either in-person or virtually (telephonically, via email and through web site)
  • Supervisory experience a plus


Skills Requirements:

  • Ability to think outside the box, adapt to constantly changing priorities, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work in a matrix environment
  • Active listening, speaking, critical thinking, social perceptiveness, service orientation, monitoring, science, judgment and decision-making skills
  • Computer skills: Experienced in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word); collecting and entering information online
  • Ability to use virtual collaboration tools and techniques
  • Developing and giving effective presentations to large and small audiences
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member


Educational Background

  • Nursing diploma or degree preferred but may substitute appropriate healthcare experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area, MPH a plus
